Productive Day to Casey Jones to Xavier

I got done what I could, truly.

Then, just moments ago, Boy shot me an email.  See below

... below ...

You can't click on those links, so I'll help you.  Both are to IMDB.  The first takes you to the Teenage Mutan Ninja Turtles (1990), where you {if you are me and are following instructions} will note Casey Jones, played by Elias Koteas.  Then, if you continue to follow instructions, will go to the next site, which is the IMDB site for a show called Combat Hospital (TV Series 2011).  You will then spend a minute trying to connect this ~ and WHAM!  The Colonel Xavier Marks ~ kind of already in love with the name ~ is played by none other than my Casey Jones!!

It's things like this that make me smile.  Will I watch?  I don't know, I'm not quite ready to commit ~ I'm just kind of thrilled that Casey Jones is alive and well and fixing the good guys over in the desert ~ because on the off chance that someone had asked me where he was that is EXACTLY where I would have said!

Life is Good

Life is good.  Life is really good.

We read a book on our way East and West {a journey to be documented when the day is not the longest of the year and the Alpine Slide is not calling my name}, “What Dreams May Come”.  It kept us all engaged and made those finals hours through Illinois fly by.  Have you read this?  Yes, there is a movie but have you read this?  I find the written word to be my favorite form of communication as it allows for emotions and thoughts to be communicated perfectly {note your pile of Hallmark cards}.  Matheson’s thoughts regarding afterlife are intriguing and thought provoking.  We found ourselves emotionally connected to his characters, from the deep devotion that carried Chris into a hell and willingness to make such heaven to the simple love of Katie, their dog, as she stays at Chris’ side as he figures out Summerland.  The conglomeration of so many ‘after death’ theories worked for me, for the most part.

"Thank you...for gracing my life with your lovely presence, for adding the sweet measure of your soul to my existence."

Several lines stood out to me, causing me to make note for future Hallmark cards or presentation of emotions/feelings.  But the above thought that is shared, as Chris descends to ‘hell’ while making it his ‘heaven’, I feel encompasses this time in my life.  People are moving on, they have gotten their ‘stuff together’ and have taken giant leaps {at least from where I’m sitting, watching with a smile on my face}.  They are moving into fun new adventures, some of them with fantastic new companions.  I’ll follow the blogs and we’ll check in with one another, of that I’m certain.  But I took a minute, as the Lake beat up against the rocks at home, to put it all in perspective as change and I don't always get along.  I like the life when they are all close, a 5 minute walk or 25 minute drive away.  But that changes and I can be grateful for them, as they were and as they now are.  It’s life, it is what it is … but it is FANTASTIC.

Some things will stay the same … B and I will always laugh at our difference in opinion, Gramps will always make me laugh with his reaction to Grams’ statements, Stac will always be the easiest to talk to, Sir will always remind me that I’m part-child, Papa will always speak to me with his eyes, and sleep will always be better if someone is near {last night stunk!}.  And new things will become familiar ~  Binx has perhaps figured out that touch is calming and a walk when nothing is said by me is perhaps the solution, Bells and I can convey a whole conversation with an eye roll from across the room or through the rear-view mirror.  I am a fan of the give and take.  I am a fan of the change.  I am a fan of the consistency.

I like my mom … I like my papa … I like my sister … I like my job … I LIKE MY WHOLE LIFE.

Soothing Strumin'

Life is fantastic, I have nothing to complain about … truly.  But yesterday at about 5:32 a button was pushed that I didn’t even know was a button and I was ornery.  There was time during the drive south to get lost in my thoughts, I indulged the orneriness within me.  At dinner I pushed it aside, Ace may say my avoidance tactics are unhealthy but they certainly make for a simpler and more pleasant evening for the company I keep.  I laughed at the stories, sincerely.  I smiled and participated in the evening.  Then I got in my car and drove north ~ same drive time, same indulgent behavior.  I was just ornery.

I got to the house and was a bit relieved that my company didn’t mind it or, at the very least, didn’t push further after I stated plainly that I did not want to discuss it.  We put in a movie and I got lost in the dapperness of the costumes and the ridiculous humor.  Post movie, I tried my darndest not to be snarky and biting as I knew there was no foundation for my attitude.  I failed a few times but I think, hope, that Binx is perhaps getting accustom to a random night of unfounded orneriness and apology through looks rather than words.  As the house retired I remained on that comfy couch, Binx started strumming on the guitar.  We didn’t talk, just existed there for thirty minutes, maybe more.  About halfway through this time I gave in, giving up the attitude, realizing that the button pushed was not intentional by the other party.  I closed my eyes and let the new creation he was working on win.  I was happy to lose last night.

YAY for patient humans, I certainly am surrounded by more than my share.  YAY for soothing melodies, no ‘Git the Grit’ was played but the new song was the lullaby I needed last night.  When I get that book written or come upon a pot of gold I may secure the presence of constant soothing strums.

Fall off a Ladder = Cheesecake

Lots has happened in the last little bit.  A trip to NY and then to DC.  A weekend with a gun in the mountains. During journey to mountains I found my bike, which is covered in snow in the picture below. Friends getting married. A visit from Mom and Sister Brazil.  New Sister moving home.  Birthday. Trip to CA. Grownup chats and Hallmark cards strewn between it all. What tops the list?  What do I decide to blog about tonight?  Oh ... perhaps just when I fell off of the ladder ~ yep. {The only picture that actually applies to this specific incident is directly below on the right, the cheesecake}

The day was going along splendidly.  I had accomplished much on my TODO list including a trip to Home Depot {which was priceless}, used my new bolt cutters {yes, I am a proud owner} to do some work on the front deck, and picked up the ladder to hang the clouds that Boy Kacey gave to me back in November.

I need note now, as Any will get frustrated if I do not, the owner of the ladder offered to come and help the very afternoon I intended to hang up these clouds.  I politely refused his offer as I knew he had some Mother's Day duties to attend to and I felt more than capable of such a menial task.

I got home, got the ladder up, and hung my first cloud.  {Let me take a moment to describe said clouds.  They weigh no more than 2 lbs.  They are wood outlines based on Mickey Mouse that Boy Kacey created for a show at the Hale.  They are whimsical and PERFECT for the house} It hung about 14 feet up. I got off of the ladder to check my work as I was home on my own.  I was pleased with position and height so I climbed back up the ladder, not quite as high, to begin hammering the nails for the next cloud.  This cloud I wanted a bit off center, to add to that whimsical theme Boy Kace had started.  I leaned a bit to the left and managed to get the first nail in.  Even more pleased with myself, I leaned again to the left {perhaps with a bit more confidence} and then I fell. Onto my left side.  How far did I fall?  Good question, the docs asked the same one.  I say a bit more than a very large man, my feet were about ten feet from the ground.

{These pictures above only prove that I am fine and was able to appreciate my 28 birthday without help from narcotics} I laid on the floor for no longer than a minute before I began to test my limbs to make sure I could move.  I could.  My back was a bit sore {slightly understated} so I scooted slowly onto the large Lovesac that was about a foot and a half behind me.  My phone was lying on it, beneath some books and DVDs I had taken down with me in the fall.  I thought for a moment and then sent a text to some locals, "Whatcha doing? I may have fallen off of a ladder."  At that point I called my Papa, I know I'm 28 {27 at that point} but that is my natural reaction in all emergencies, get Papa Jeff's direction.  He was a bit dramatic and wanted me to call 911 and get an ambulance.  That wasn't going to happen.  I assured him that I was going to be fine as Juls was en route to me.

Juls and I made it to the doc who prescribed me some muscle relaxers, Lortab, and some meds so that I could keep the Lortab down ~ I had learned from falling off of the horse that up-chucking with a hurt back is a fate worse than death. I was in some serious pain at this point so we left the doc, who I adore for her med giving abilities and her confirmation of my thought to simply go see Dr. PT and Chiro on Monday ~ no new injury just aggravation of the old one {Dr. PT and I had a date every other day for a two weeks ~ he's a miracle worker he is as all is well at current} ~ to head to get some meds.  I was flirting with Pharmacist Sam {totally my type Ace} and it was at this point Buba called, he had been called by Papa.  He was on his mission when I had my initial fall.  I think he felt it was his duty to come and play Brother to me as I was about to be as high as a kite on pain pills.

Buba took control of my phone for a bit, canceling my plans for the evening and monitoring my texts as I was far from earth for a bit.  {I may have started to cry over the fact I hadn't seen Tomb Raider}  But before he did this I had told Sir {the man who enjoyed hitting me to keep me breathing during my previous stint in the hospital} via text that cheesecake would make the world a better place. {Yes, there it is, the end is in sight for those that have read all of this!}  He called and as he ring identifies him specifically as a Happy Human, Buba allowed me to answer. He took our orders ... Dulce de Leche for me ~ pictured way up at the top.  He arrived in a timely manner with treats in hand.  Buba, who was closely monitoring my meds to be sure I wasn't higher than a kite, handed me my next dose of the feel-good-pills as Sir handed me the cheesecake.

I'll be honest, the rest is a bit blurry.  Sir stayed and kept me entertained for a bit, or perhaps I kept him entertained for longer than a bit.  I do remember a conversation about how I had hung the clouds wrong, how any designer/engineer/testosterone heavy human should have hung the clouds rather than me.  I fought that but in the end promised I would not venture up on the ladder again, as proven by the yet unhung clouds sitting not four feet from me while the ladder taunts me in the corner.  Sir retold some of the stories from the first fall, exaggerating my inabilities and enhancing my cries.  And then I fell asleep, with tummy happy and full and Buba set with the alarm to wake me for meds as the night turned into morning.

Church was the next day, I was certain that I could handle the full three hours. Binx, Any, and J were close at hand to keep me from making any ridiculous comments.  After Sunday School I was feeling the need for some more meds and perhaps cheesecake {Sir had not eaten all of his or I had not eaten all of mine or something ~ I just knew there were leftovers in the fridge}.  I knew it was just a matter of the proper tactics towards Binx {unlike Sir, who has ten years under his belt, Binx had not yet grown familiar with nor built up the proper defenses to deny me at the time of slight whine/batting of eyes/and pleading} ~ I was home within five minutes. Drugged-and-cheesecaked-up by minute seven.

Did the Bulls play that night?  I don't even remember.  I just know that the next time I take a stumble or totter or need heavy doses of high meds, Papa is not the first call I will make.  It will be to the human nearest the Cheesecake Factory.  Thank you Sir for indulging my request this one time.  Thank you Buba for allowing me to answer the phone.  Thank you Binx for recognizing that I did need to get home.  And most of all, thank you to the wonderful people at the Cheesecake Factory for providing such a healing menu item.
