I believe in nicknames. If you are a someone I spend time with, likely you have been dubbed. Some names come quickly while with others there is a trial period. I've pronounced some with multiple while others have one vital nickname I stick with. More often than not there is a story behind the name.
Take my nickname from my Dad: Sunshine. This came from an early morning Daddy-Daughter-Date we went on before I was old enough to pour my own milk. We went to the Lake to see the sunrise and the rest is obvious history. My nickname from any male that knew me via the ward pre-college life: I look, talk, act, respond ect. ect. ect. like my mother and the rest is obvious history and being passed down through the generations, I'm fairly certain Mason and Porter would argue with anyone that Kasi does not exist and it is Marsha they love and adore! My nickname from Ming: I did some investigative work while he was in his initial phases of dating Robs and there was a mix up of the acronym PA and PI and in the explanation we used Magnum PI, drop the PI and the rest is obvious history.
So when my mother got all artsy-crafty at some Winter Wonderland Home-Making Enrichment Relief Society Meeting Night a while back and she created this wooden thing with all of her children's nicknames on it, I was surprised to see in the midst of Briggy Bear, Bitzy, and Joshy ... Kasers. Really? Briggy Bear and I stood there for a bit and tried to remember anyone that had ever called me this. Throughout school I had aquired Frenchy, Kas, SpaceKas, and for a brief instance KJ but never had I been called Kasers. We inquired after the reasoning and all my mother came up with was: I couldn't remember a nickname for you... yes, in that instant it was again confirmed that I am a Daddy's girl. Both Briggy Bear and I responded with: Kas. We still laugh as the wooden thing, its a Christmas wooden thing, is out each year and Briggy Bear calls me Kasers once in front of my mother just to be hilarious {I know, it is not funny to you but know Briggy Bear, know Marcia, know the tone of voice used and you'll know that it actually is hilariously funny ~ redundant, I know}.
The reason I bring this up ... I was just ending my day when I realized I had a missed call from CA. With a smile I hit that little voicemail button and put the phone to my ear only to hear: Kasers ... and the message went on. But I stopped it and replayed it and started laughing, hysterically. Seriously!?! It's not that I don't like the nickname. It is simply that no one in the past 26 {Heels, I typed 27 first, just so you are aware} years has called me this and he decides, after four years, to bust this out?!? What?!?!? I'm laughing ... maybe in the daylight it would not be so dang hilarious but in this moment ... lots of laughter!!
